Fire in the Working Men’s Club

In March 2022, a large fire destroyed the Working Men’s Club, the building right next to our Acts church building. It was very frightening to watch the flames get nearer and nearer to our roof as you can see from the photos below, but, praise God, our building remained untouched! A real miracle!

On Friday 10th June 2022 we held our very successful open day to celebrate the opening of our new community cafe – Caffi Croeso@Acts. The aim of our community cafe was to provide a comfortable and welcoming place for the people of Tylorstown to come along and enjoy good quality food and drinks at very affordable prices. The open day was very well attended by a number of local Councillors, representatives from different businesses in the area, our Assembly Member, Buffy Williams and our Member of Parliament, Christ Bryant. Visitors were able to take a tour around the building and sample our freshly ground coffee alongside a tasty selection of home-made cakes. Our Elder, Steve Evans shared a little of the history of the building and our hopes and aims for the future. Chris Bryant also shared some words of praise and encouragement for the work that we were doing in the community.

Our community cafe is now open every Friday from 9.30am to 1.30pm and we are seeing many people from the local area drop in regularly for coffee, cake and chat! Alongside the cakes, we also serve paninis, baguettes, toasties and jacket potatoes and you can have your choice of different types of coffee and tea.

In April 2023, our Community Cafe was nominated by Councillor Susan Morgans for a Rhondda Rotary Community Recognition Award. All the team attended the Presentation evening and were very proud to find out that they had won! Well done to everyone involved!

We will be holding a Baptismal Service on Sunday 25th June at 10.30am down by the river behind the church in Tylorstown. Please contact one of the Church Elders on actschurchuk@gmail.com for further information or if you would wish to be baptised.
